Ryan Fellows, Action Sports
Ryan Fellows, Principal. I was born and raised
in Albuquerque, New Mexico where my great grandparents settled in the early 1900s. I am married to
the love of my life and together we have three beautiful daughters. I am the fourth generation to
live in the Albuquerque area and my three daughters are now the fifth generation. I grew up in the
outdoors and have a very strong background in the wilderness of the southwest. I am an avid
downhill skier, backpacker, and backcountry enthusiast.
I have been a small business entrepreneur since a
very early age. I became interested in photography in college at the University of NM and got my
first photo gig shooting ski photos in Taos Ski Valley. I ski over one hundred days each season
photographing skiers in action and portraits on top of the mountain.
I attended the Colorado Art Institute for
photography in Denver, Colorado soon after getting married to my wife Vickie. We ran our
photography business out of our home in Denver. After photography school we returned to Albuquerque
and opened our studio Blue Sky Images in the historic Nob-Hill neighborhood in Albuquerque in the
summer of 1994. We continue to operate Blue Sky Images in Albuquerque and have had the privilege of
photographing so many great people. We have had the opportunity to work with many influential
people over the years including: George W. Bush, Al Gore, Newt Gingrich, Steve Forbes, Gov. Gary
Johnson, Gov. Frank Keating, Gov. Christie Todd Whitman, Gov. George Pataki
. and many others.
Vickie and I also had the pleasure of photographing Luciano Pavarotti and Jamie Lee Curtis. More
importantly, we have been entrusted to photograph over two thousand weddings and countless newborn
portraits, anniversaries, engagements and many other important moments in our client's
In 1997 we opened our custom photography lab,
Southwest Photographic, and provided custom lab services to many of the photography studios in NM
and the Southwest. In November of 2008, Vickie and I purchased one half of Cold Smoke Photography
in Taos Ski Valley. This was where my photography career began. It seems to have come full circle.
I live in the Ski Valley half time from Thanksgiving until Easter. We converted the operation to
digital photography utilizing state-of-the-art Nikon cameras and lenses and displaying our images
on Apple computers. We then send the electronic files to Vickie at our lab in Albuquerque. All
printing and shipping of the ski photos are handled through our studio / lab in Albuquerque.
